Grok's case is cost and currency: $2 in / $6 out per 1M tokens is the cheapest premium-tier output here, and with search switched on it is current. Its weaknesses are just as specific — a training cutoff of 1 February 2026, thin documentation, and a tone that usually needs editing before a client sees it.

Better documented, broader ecosystem, and output that usually needs less editing before it goes to a client. It is considerably more expensive per token — this is a quality-for-cost trade, made deliberately.

The swap if tone is the problem. Claude's drafts need the least rewriting of anything in this comparison, and its 1M-token window is the largest published figure here. No live web search, so currency becomes your job.
Perplexity AI · Research, cited answers, anything current
If you were using Grok to find out what happened this week, an answer engine does that with sources attached instead of a feed. It will not generate at volume, so this replaces the research use, not the generation use.
Google · Google Workspace users, files, video
Free, current, and it handles files properly — 2GB video and 5,000-file repositories against Grok's thin file story. Google does not publish per-model context windows, so you lose the ability to compare that figure.
DeepSeek · Coding, reasoning, cost-sensitive work
The other low-cost option for reasoning and code, with an OpenAI-compatible API. Its current token pricing is not readable at source, so we cannot tell you whether it undercuts Grok — and jurisdiction needs review before sensitive work.
The other side
On price per token for high-volume generation, Grok wins this comparison outright at $6 per 1M output tokens, and its 500K context window is the second-largest figure any vendor here actually publishes. If you are generating at volume and editing afterwards anyway, the economics are hard to argue with.

Not at published rates. Grok's $6 per 1M output tokens is the cheapest premium-tier output figure any vendor in this set publishes. DeepSeek may be cheaper, but its current token pricing was not readable at source when we checked, so we will not claim it.
Only with search switched off, and then a great deal — the cutoff is 1 February 2026, so anything after that is invisible. With search on it is current. If you use it through the API without search, budget for that gap.
ChatGPT at 1.05M tokens and Claude at 1M, both documented, against Grok's published 500K. Google, Mistral and DeepSeek do not publish per-model context windows where we could verify them.
Claude, clearly. The most common complaint about Grok in professional use is tone, and tone control is the thing Claude does better than anything else here.
